I wanted to shake up my life and go sailing (or learn on the job, so-to-speak) so headed to Florida to crew on a catamaran. This is about how it went or, rather, didn't - and my life since. Hopefully it will lead to a catamaran on the clear aqua blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, watching the sunset, a coconut rum and coke in hand. You must START AT THE BEGINNING of the blog, April 2009, to get the whole story...

PICTURE, 1000 WORDS, AND ALL THAT

So if a picture is worth a thousand words, then I will keep this post brief.

So there you have it; why I want to move away from here to a more southern climate. It's JUNE, for pete's sake.

  1. We feel your pain. We definitely do. And no end in sight. It makes me crazy.

    1. I honestly feel like I can't stand another day of this weather. At least you have a solid plan of escape. I sure wish I did.

  2. Keep the faith! I can't handle the idea of another "summer" like last "summer." In fact, I haven't met anyone lately who isn't saying "nuts to this" and trying to figure a way out. Even friends who grew up in Seattle and lived here all their lives are fed up!
My man and I are making solid escape plans. Unfortunately there won't be the practical amount of funds (and we aren't thinking of a lot of money here rather paying everything off before we disappear) until December. If we can survive until then it'll be a celebratory Christmas in the BVI and then back to his homeland in Laguna Beach! (Fingers crossed!!)

    1. The BVI?? THE BVI????? If you read my blog you will learn that I am a bit obsessive about the BVI.

How great that you have the option to move to a warmer climate and be able to work. I have a British Passport so was hoping that would get me into the BVI and be able to work but apparently it is not that easy. It could get me work in the Canary Islands or another EU warm climate but now I just became a grandmother I am so torn! I am trying to formulate a plan so I can be in warmer weather whenever I feel like it. I hope it works! As for you... all the best to you in your move and lets hope we all don't drown before then!

  3. The reason I read your blog is because of your BVI obsessiveness! (Found it through a link you posted a while back on TTOL.) I can totally relate!! Every morning I check the Soggy Dollar web cam and shed a little tear...
I've been so preoccupied with the horrible weather here in the NW that I've been looking around for anywhere warmer: Fairbanks, AK is sunny and 79 today. That is so depressing.

    1. Oh I didn't know you were from the TTOL website. WELCOME!!!

And yes that IS depressing. Alaska warmer and sunnier than here. Now I am really in a funk.

    2. Well, those pictures you took of your last trip were stunning! If I had anything to say about it, I'd hire you to work for the BVI Tourist Board! They've helped convince my boyfriend to visit Anegada (something I've been trying to do for a while now).

    3. How cool is that? I am glad I could help! Honestly, Anegada is amazing. There's no place like it. So secluded, nothing much going on, but wow the views and so laid back. When you go, if you walk west of Neptunes Treasure about 10 minutes or so, you will come to the most sublime piece of beach where you can see a mile or more in each direction along the sand and so it is PERFECT for skinny dipping. When I was there, there was a piece of driftwood sticking straight up out of the sand, just a branch, perfect for hanging my swim suit and camera on while I swam. If you find that stick, you've found the spot!!

  4. Sounds delightful! Every year I go down to Tortola and want to go to Anegada but never actually make it. Next time I'm just going. Boyfriend wants to go now (thanks!) so I'm just going to plan it. (The same thing happened with St. John and I finally made it over there for a week a couple of years ago.)

  5. Oh my gosh I am homesick for Anegada. Love that place. I want some conch fritters, lobster and rum just thinking about it. Of course you can come on down to Georgia, USA and hang with me. Loads of caravans and RV's for sale here. Met lots of Canadians last winter in Florida who make the annual trek and manage to stay here 6 months of the year.

    1. When I think of Anegada, it's not the food, it's the beaches and the people I miss so much - and SUNSHINE.

As for coming on down to Georgia; I need to work and make a living and right now that is location dependant for me. I wish it were different but it isn't at the moment. I'd like to be able to change that. If I can work more for better wages half of the year (so far just movies of the week this year for 1/3 of what I would get paid on a union show) then I could swing 6 months in sunshine somewhere. Hopefully that will start to happen soon.
